WHAT IS THE BEST WATER FILTRATION METHOD?
Most experts agree that a process of water filtration called “reverse osmosis” offers the most advantages. For commercial applications, where purity of water is important, reverse osmosis has been used for decades.
U.S. hospitals use it due to both its purity and low operation cost. Pharmacies all over the world use it to reconstitute medicines. Reverse osmosis is used on ships worldwide to make salt water into drinkable water; in the semiconductor industry to rinse microchips, and many other applications.
Even some of the finer coffee shops discovered that reverse osmosis makes coffee or tea taste better. This is very important to them since better coffee alone is often not enough to entice a customer away from another gourmet coffee shop. This way, reverse osmosis became their “secret weapon.”
Reader’s Digest, in its article, How safe is your water? writes:
“Reverse Osmosis systems are becoming ever more popular for water purification, especially combined with a charcoal filter. This combination solves practically every problem of your drinking water purification.”
Even Andrew Weil, M.D., “America's favorite doctor” (his nickname in the media) writes,
“All in all I think that reverse osmosis is the best way to proceed.”
Reverse osmosis water purification process breaks water into molecules and separates the molecules of pure water from those of the contaminants. It’s a slower but very thorough filtration method (who wants speed anyway, if quality of water is compromised!).
Also, unlike most other filtration technologies, where contaminants are constantly lodged inside of the cartridge, reverse osmosis process automatically rinses off the contaminants as filtered water is produced. In other words, the filter continuously cleans itself. This self-cleaning process also extends the life of the cartridge itself and makes it last much longer than an average filter.
A reverse osmosis filter can remove most of the contaminants from the water, and considering the cost of bottled water, can pay for itself in a few months (a gallon produced with reverse osmosis should cost 3 to 6 cents.)

The chart above is an interesting one. This is a comparison of permeability of reverse osmosis filter membrane with various microscopic elements as well as with other methods of filtration. Reverse osmosis membrane’s tiny “pores” are 620,000 times finer than a human hair, 10,000 smaller than a red blood cell, 2,500 times smaller than bacteria and 20 to 500 times smaller than any virus.
WHAT CAN WATER DO FOR OUR BODIES?
We have already discussed how harmful, even detrimental, it is for the human body not to consume enough water. Yet pure water alone has been shown to help people with:
· Constipation. Allergies. Headaches
· Ulcers. Heart problems such as circulation, high blood pressure, cholesterol & stroke
· Migraines
· Asthma
· Arthritis
· Diabetes
· Weight problems (both weight gain & loss)
· Arthritis
· Chronic Fatigue
· Fibromyalgia
· Heartburn
· Overeating
· Diabetes, etc.

It’s impossible to list all the advantages of consuming pure water.
Well, what does the “sufficient intake of water” really translates into? On the average it’s important to drink 8 - 12 glasses a day, depending on your weight and how physically active you are. A good rule of thumb is that one should consume 1/2 of their body weight in ounces. So if you weigh 128 pounds - you would probably need 64 ounces of water, which is eight standard 8-oz. glasses. If you weigh 160 pounds you could probably use 80 oz. of water, which is ten 8-oz. glasses, and so on. If you have a medical condition you should see your health practitioner to determine what your ideal water intake should be.
It’s no surprise that doctors practicing alternative medicine have for years been recommending drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day to those who want to be healthy.
If you are not used to drinking plain water, you may at first think that it’s too much. However, our bodies need large amounts of water and it gets accustomed very quickly to the increased volume of water. One good “trick” is to keep a glass of water in front of you and do whatever work is at hand while drinking a few sips every 10-20 minutes or so. You will not even notice how you have drained the glass. Many people prefer using a 1 or 1.5 quart (liter) bottle that used to contain some store-bought water, refilling it when necessary with filtered water (1 quart bottle is 4 glasses; 1.5 quart bottle is 6 glasses). Clean filtered water – don’t leave home without it!
In conclusion, we would like to quote a famous French writer and poet Antoine de Saint-Exupery. We feel that his ode to water is hard to surpass:
"Water, you fill us with inexplicable joy.
You restore in us the strength that we thought have been lost forever.
Thanks to you, the dried up springs of our heart start splashing again.
You are the biggest riches of all.
Water, you defy description!
You are enjoyed by everyone.
Yet no one can comprehend why.
It is not that you are vital to life –
you ARE life itself."
Antoine de Saint-Exupery
