WATER - YOUR BEST FRIEND OR YOUR WORST ENEMY?
Nationwide Health Alert!
According to U.S. government, 7.1 million people get sick every year; 1200 actually die due to water contamination. Here's how to make sure you're not the next victim.
SURPRISING CAUSE OF MANY DISEASES
Next to oxygen, water is the most important of the elements vital to human survival. Nevertheless our tap water, filled with chemicals and additives, and even a lot of the bottled water we think of as “safe” can become our worst enemv, poisoning our body and causing a whole range of illnesses and symptoms which we, in error, attribute to anything but the water we drink.
“The American public can no longer take the purity of their drinking water for granted." - EPA (a U.S. government agency)
We are so used to getting water flow by merely turning our taps on, that we tend to forget where this water comes from and how it gets into our homes. Dr. Kurt Donsbach, Ph.D. wrote in his book on water:
"When we take a microscopic view of your tap water, although it has already passed through the municipal plant, it still has sediment, micro-organisms and chemicals. This is the water you are drinking every day! In some cities the tap water has been used by other human beings as many as five times... The municipal treatment plant in use today was primarily designed 100 years ago! This system duplicates nature's Hydrologic Cycle for the removal of suspended matter. This simple method of settling tanks, followed by filtration through sand and gravel and the introduction of chlorine at several points in the treatment process, is not capable of removing the complex dissolved chemicals contaminating our water today... Will the contaminants in our drinking water make us sick? The answer is a resounding YES!"
Here are some of the many findings of a two-year-long study of drinking water contamination carried out by the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and data provided by U.S. government's own Centers for Disease Control and EPA:
. Over 7.1 million people become sick each year and 1200 actually die due to water contamination.
. Over 49 million Americans drink water containing such radioactive materials as radon & radium.
. In the period of just 2 years, between 1991 and 1992, there had been 250,000 violations of the Safe Drinking Water Act.
. More than 90% of these violations resulted from water suppliers' failure to:
a) test water for contaminants
b) report contamination to the EPA
c) use proper treatment techniques
d) notify the public of violations
The city of Milwaukee was unfortunate enough to have learned this the hard way in the spring of 1993, when the aging water treatment plants failed to detect a parasite in the city's drinking water. U.S. government's Centers for Disease Control warns that,
"About one half of the water purification systems in the country sometimes let through the same microbes that, in 1983, caused illness to half the population of Milwaukee...”
Chlorine, which is commonly used to kill these creatures is rated very low, "Fair to Poor," as a method of killing these parasites [Water Quality Assoc., Microorganisms in Water].
Many are also concerned today by bioterrorism threat to our water supplies as there are 168 thousand different public water supplies in USA, many of which are completelv unprotected. In fact, on Oct. 10 2001 the FBI reported that our water supply is "A logical target for a terrorist attack."
Even the President takes care of his health by using a water filtration system designed specifically for his needs because tap water in our capital is one of the most contaminated in the United States.
